Coco's Abilities

After finishing up Coco's path the second time... I found that Coco seems to be more powerful than Blick Winkel on some sense.  Although I'm not sure if Coco can foresee future, but she definitely is more than just an innocent and silly girl.  It is undisputed of her ability to 1)see Blick Winkel as an entity separate from the host and 2)shows herself as a phantom image to Blick Winkel.  #1 is proved in late of Coco's path and #2 is the theme throughout the Kid's perspective.  Her powers in question are 1)knows everybody's fate and 2)project her image through the barrier of time.

Takeshi hears Coco talks to somebody, but when he got to the chamber, Coco is surprised and claimed she was not talking to anybody, then she put up a silly introduction with Takeshi.  In Hokuto's perspective,  the phantom Coco says:

[Coco]
"Don't go...please..."
[Kid]
"W-what?"
[Coco]
"Please, don't go..."
[Coco]
"Don't leave me alone..."
I couldn't understand what she meant.
I couldn't understand...but my mouth had an answer.
[Kid]
"I won't go."
[Kid]
"I will stay with you, Coco."
'Please, don't go'...just now the two of our minds had overlapped.
I felt if I took my eyes off of her, she would disappear.
And Coco felt the same way.

According to Coco's tone, this Coco is the Coco who are in the cryogenic suspension for the fact that 1)she is depressed and 2)"don't leave me alone".  Takeshi hears Coco's part of the conversation in 2017 when he enters the Infirmary is because of BW's ability to turn perception into reality. (BW thinks that for "Shounen to hear a phantom Coco talks, that Coco must be in Takeshi's world".  And it of course wasn't the real Coco of 2017 who were talking.  Proof: when Takeshi enters the Decompression Chamber, Coco isn't talking.  Like the kick-the-can and Shounen counting mystery, this also very likely to be a misconception of BW that conflicts with reality.)

There are countless allusions and playful hints in Coco's jokes in her path.  One of the most obvious is of course, calling Takeshi and Tsugumi "daddy" and "mommy".  It is unclear how Coco would know Takeshi and Tsugumi will have children when the 2034 BW hasn't figure it out yet.  Here comes the question of whether Coco knows everything that ever going to happen.

My interpretation for this ability of hers is... undetermined at this moment.  There are evidences supporting both sides of this argument.  For instance, if Coco knows that much of what's going to happen, then a lot of injury and hurts later in the story are unnecessary, including Tsugumi's injury where Coco deeply blames herself. (Coco has "the ability" long before she comes to LeMU, according to herself, thus gaining "the ability" somewhere along the course of the event is not possible.  I used the term "the ability" is because it is unsure what degree of ESP power she really has.)  On the other hand, she can be someone knows everything that is going to happen but does nothing other than playing the role of herself.  It isn't very convincing and compatible with Coco's personality when she knowingly let herself to be saved by Tsugumi (thus causing Tsugumi injury), don't mention getting out of her pod in IBF and missed the rescue team.   Then again, the 2017 pre-infected Coco does give a lot of hint through playing with Takeshi and confessing to him, such as saying she "has been able to talk with people from other dimensions)

Suppose if Coco really is all-powerful and knows what BW knows and also what BW doesn't know yet, it would make some sense of her behaviors.  Coco should know that in Kid's perspective, she needs to guide Hokuto to realize Blick Winkel's existence (or more like guide BW to recognize his own existence apart from Hokuto -_-).  Of course, it is hard to believe that she would have to be saved at all if she knew this much.  One thing more startling than this is the fact she knows what BW doesn't know, yet.  The word "yet" has a heavy meaning since it automatically levels Coco to a position where she > BW.  She said herself that she's only human and her ability is limited... but how can she know what BW doesn't know yet?  The only reason for it that I can think of is if Coco "borrows" BW's perspective, aka process every information that BW receives, and have a better reasoning skill than BW (who's in denial pretty much throughout the game), and makes better calculation.

The next hypothesis can totally invalidates the previous guess.  Coco's ghost wondered around and found about You'haru and Kaburaki's plan before hand.  Without the power to show herself to those two, she then played a very active role leading to BW's self recognition.  Although this may feel like crossing an unethical shortcut for coming up this theory... I think it can pretty much explains everything other than the scene of 2017 Coco talks to Hokuto in front of the Lemurian Ruin (where she said to Takeshi that she wasn't talking to him but a person from another dimension).

So... Is Coco the overseer of everything ever happened in Ever 17 world and deceived everyone with a carefree attitude?  Or she's just a little psychic whom just desperate enough to get Hokuto's attention on saving her?  Considering the contradictory evidence, this question probably will never generates a satisfying answer.

Phantom Coco
At decompression room, she sees BW of 2034 for the first time.

Outside of the Generator Room

Blick Winkel has not awaken, Coco would no longer exist.
